Leather is placed on 4 sides of the paddle stop. Because it is made specifically for knives, all surfaces are textured surfaces. The size is made of the same size and shape with added leather as the bar river straw. If you use the tri-color compound of the bar river, the Totilla Stoop has 4 sides, so you can use a single straw. This means you can sharpen at less than half the cost. And because one side is extra on it, you can use it for a non-compound polish finish (often done with razors from the time).
